4. Princess Leia
Princess Leia is an iconic science-fiction character, who manages to stand out in a saga dominated by men, who also happen to some of the best actors in the industry. The headstrong, self-confident, independent and highly opinionated character of Princess Leia is an inspiration for all, she not only serves the role of a dignified princess, but also plays the manoeuvring and calculating roles of a soldier, a politician and a military strategist.
Carrie Fisher has indeed poured life into the character of Princess Leia, creating a powerful woman who is handy with a blaster, and manages a slave chain just as well in a slave-bikini avatar. One thing is for sure, Leia is no damsel in distress, and we can’t help but adore her sass and confidence.
3. Luke Skywalker
Luke is without any doubts the star of the saga, a powerful heroic figure, and over the years, this hero has emerged as a might cult fan-favourite, with the best fight scenes with tough lightsaber duels, the greatest story arc and of course, some of the most amazing scenes in the entire saga. We simply can’t forget the mighty and mega revelation of Luke and Vader, which marks one of the most iconic and powerful moments of cinematic history.
2. Darth Vader
Darth Vader is by far the most powerful and iconic characters in the Star Wars saga, with his heavy-set bodybuilder shoulders grazed by a long black cape, and muttering malevolent lines like: “The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands.”
His mysteriously evil costume, designed by celebrity costumier John Mollo, is an intensely dramatic visual treat with its glossy stormtrooper exterior, and gas-mask-like helmet, Darth Vader makes an iconic black fashion statement.
Towards the ending of The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas and Darth Wader make the greatest reveal by proclaiming Lucas as Vader’s son, and for a moment we were so gripped that we almost wanted Luke to create his own empire along with his dad.
1. Han Solo
Ever since its creation in 1977, Han Solo has been the ultimate favourite of every kid for everyone wants to play this iconic character, who happens to be the most popular character in cinematic history. Han Solo is not only the best pilot/smuggler in the galaxy, but he is also incredibly wise, and the dashing good looks of Harrison Ford make this character all the more attractive and appealing.
Even the Force, or the tragic story of Vader can’t compete against the charm of Han Solo, not even Princess Leia in her gypsy-like space bikinis or the insanely cool lightsabers, if Star Wars have to offer one big juicy element of fiction, it all revolves around Han Solo.
George Lucas created a character that was distant, aloof and loaded with a cocky sense of fierce self-confidence, only to win over our hearts with quotes like these: “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.”
As soon as Han Solo walks onto the screen, the story just springs to life and leads our imagination into an endlessly cool cinematic experience, and even though Ford’s talent remains consistent, Han Solo as a character underwent immense growth and versatility. Famous as the space cowboy, the character of Han Solo is written very expertly by focusing on making him grow with every new film of the Saga.
Adding a completely unpredictable romance into Solo’s life was a shocking turn to the sequel, and while we are all rooting for the love story of Luke and Leia, Ford ends up fighting with Fisher, and suddenly, a movie about space fights and droids ends up becoming a romantic love story. We have to admit, we all adored the cool and fierce Han Solo, but the romantic ending of The Empire Strikes Back was absolutely and utterly incredible.
